Earn your German Hunting License

We are pleased to announce an upcoming opportunity for U.S. Forces service members, civilians, and their families in the greater Garmisch area to earn a German hunting license.

This program is available to U.S. Forces personnel who are U.S. citizens, to include active duty military, family members who meet program specific age requirements, and civilian personnel that are employed full-time, part-time, or on a flex schedule by the U.S. Forces or NATO, or an agency within the Federal Republic of Germany.

NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) will be hosting a course this summer that meets all requirements of German law to receive a hunting license, as well as teaching valuable skills in woodcraft, conservation, firearms familiarization and safety, local wildlife, and German hunting traditions.

The course consists of approximately 60 instruction hours, conducted from May to August 2020 at NSO.  Classes will be held for approximately 2 hours each on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, although some periods of instruction will be held on pre-arranged weekends at a local shooting range and other sites in the greater Garmisch area.  Attendance at each lesson is required in order to be eligible for the final hunting exam.  Successfully passing the final exam will earn the student the certificate(Prüfungszeugnis)required for a hunting license in Germany (Jagdschein); this certificate is valid for life and is recognized in most states of the European Union as well as other countries around the world.

The cost of the course includes an initial commitment of $250 due on the day of registration, which will cover exam fees and membership in the US Forces Hunting, Fishing, and Sport Shooting (HFSS) Program, which is required to attend this HFSS course. There will be additional costs during the course to cover fees associated with use of the shooting range, purchasing ammunition for marksmanship training, and other operating costs.

The registration period will open 24 February 2020 and will close 03 April 2020.  The first class is currently projected to be held on 05 May and is expected to be complete by August. To register, call  08822-9481-2108 during duty hours or click to email.
